Theology of earthquakes

The master thesis deals with importance and meaning of earthquakes as a natural process as well as natural disasters in areas where earthquakes cause heavy damage to lives or properties. The goal of the thesis is to answer the question whether God reveals himself and his divine actions in earthquakes provided that he discloses himself in all his creation in the natural world. A complete list of references on earthquakes in Bible has been compiled and it shows that earthquakes mostly precede or accompany very important events, theophany, and eschatological happening, which always point to God´s glory, power and magnificence. The thesis summarizes historical evolution of theodicy related to earthquakes as natural disasters. There is a paradigm shift from God´s responsibility to responsibility of humankind, in relation to structural sins of the rich against the poor who most suffer during the natural disasters. The thesis offers also synthesizing view on earthquakes as natural process, especially how they reflect God´s invisible characteristics, such as God´s power, glory, magnificence, freedom, wisdom, eternal activity, order, harmony, balance, and beauty.

Till we have faces: A process of growing into a Christian maturity in the mythical language of C. S. Lewis

Title of this work is Till we have faces: The process of growing up to Christian maturity in mythic language of C.S. Lewis. This work deals with the theme of Christian maturity in faith, specifically the process of growing up into this adulthood, by C. S. Lewis. This topic is researched in his book Till we have faces. It is a retold myth by Lewis, so description of the mythic language function will be important. The growing process is introduced in two selected views. The first is the role of pain in this process and the second is the role of imagination. These two paths are chosen because they are important topics in Lewis life. Christian maturity description is based on the Bible. Pain is presented in the view of several theologians and several theodicy streams are described. In this work, Jacob and Job are introduced as representatives of people who have gone through the process of growing up into maturity and have met God face to face. The work introduces Lewis' life with a focus on his growing up in Christian maturity. The main part is the analysis of the book Till we have faces. During the analysis the main moments are commented. The final chapter summarizes key findings and theses.

What is evil? Philosophical answers

The thesis deals with the fundamental philosophical question: "What is evil?" It is devided into three main chapters. In the first one I try to verify and define the term "evil". Then I examine two selected concepts dualism and privation theory in the second chapter. While the dualististic theory (which says there are two equal forces) seems to be inconsistent, the privation theory can in some way provide the explanation (or at least partial explanation) of the phenomenon of evil. With these consderations we can approach to the third part where "the argument of evil" (which is usually used as evidence against the exstence of God) is concerned and then questioned.

Certain theological aspects of selected Tomáš Halík's books and his work influence on the Czech general public

The thesis deals with writings of Tomáš Halík and his influence of the Czech general public. The aim of the work is a reflection of the main aspect of theology in Halík´s books and analysis of reactions to his works. The first chapter describes the media image of Tomáš Halík and the reactions of restondents to him with the aid of research. The second chapter ilustrate the reactions of other authors to Tomáš Halík´s work. The last chapter deals with the main aspect of theology in selected books of Tomáš Halík. The end of this work deals with inspiring opportunities for pastor activities in the work and literature of Tomáš Halík.
